Kathmandu, December 24
Nepal has spent almost twice as much on diesel imports as last year. Although the import
volume of diesel has increased by only 14.5 percent compared to last year, the investment for diesel has doubled due to the increase in the price in the international market, according to the customs department.
According to Mohan Pudasaini, statistics officer of the department, it has spent Rs 49.2 billion to import 645,313 kiloliters of diesel in the first five months of the current fiscal year. During the review period last year, Nepal imported 564,685 kiloliters of diesel at a cost of Rs 23.43 billion.
Last year, diesel was imported at an average of Rs 41 per liter, but this year, the average cost is Rs 74 per liter, according to the department.
