Kathmandu, December 23.
Monitoring of educational institutions conducting educational programs in Nepal
in association with foreign universities has been stopped for six years. The
ministry has not been able to effectively monitor those institutions after giving
them permission to operate for five years after a one-time monitoring.
As per the rules, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology should have
monitored and decided whether to allow the operation for the coming year after
monitoring, but the process for renewal has not moved forward even though the
five-year operating permit of 85 such educational institutions expired last Magh.
Due to lack of timely monitoring, the ministry has not been able to keep abreast
of the educational, physical, administrative and financial condition of these
institutions. These educational institutions are conducting studies without
renewal as there is no monitoring from the ministry. They had applied to the
ministry for renewal last year after the expiration of the operation period, but the
ministry has not yet monitored it.
