Deuba Gets 2258 Votes for the Party President

The counting of votes for the post of President of the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress has been completed. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has received 2,258 votes.

His nearest rival Dr. Shekhar Koirala got 1,729 votes, while presidential candidate Prakash Man Singh got 360 votes, Bimalendra Nidhi got 239 votes and Kalyan Gurung got 20 votes.

A total of 4,679 out of 4,743 voters had cast their votes in the polling held from Monday morning till night. According to the Congress legislation, it will be mandatory to get more than 50 percent of the votes cast for the election.

As no candidate got more than 50 percent votes for the first phase, the second round of voting will be held again. In re-polling, the candidate who gets the most votes will win. Voting was held for 132 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee.
