Preparations for cabinet expansion begin

Two and a half months after the formation of the government, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has started the homework of expanding the cabinet. As soon as the ordinance on political parties was repealed on Monday at the request of the ruling coalition parties, Prime Minister Deuba is about to complete the cabinet.

Although the four parties in the ruling coalition have agreed to take seven ministries and the CPN-Maoist Centre, the CPN-Unified Socialist Party and the Janata Samajwadi Party have 6/6 ministries each, it has not been decided yet which parties will get which ministries. Prime Minister Deuba, who has already appointed ministers of state for home, finance, energy, justice, law and parliamentary affairs, foreign affairs and health, will appoint 16 more ministers.

The ruling coalition partner, the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, has already announced the names of six ministers to join the government. Stating that the cabinet will be expanded by Wednesday, CPN-Unified Socialist Leader Metmani Chaudhary said, “As per the agreement reached between the coalition parties, the cabinet will now be completed.”
