A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar made a decision to recommend his name as Acting Chief of the national army as the incumbent army chief Purna Chandra Thapa is taking a leave from August 8 due to his age.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki informed that today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers has recommended to the President that Lieutenant General Prabhu Ram Sharma be retained as the acting Chief of Army Staff with effect from Aug.10.
Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa is retiring this month due to age limit.
The cabinet meeting has recommended change of the heads of Lumbini and Gandaki provinces. The government has recommended to the President to appoint Prithviman Gurung of Chitwan as Gandaki and Amik Sherchan as the Lumbini state chief.
Gandaki Chief Sita Kumari Poudel and Lumbini Chief Dharmanath Yadav have gone through the process of resignation along with the recommendation of the cabinet. Sherchan was earlier the Gandaki state chief. He was fired by the previous government. The CPN (Maoist Center) has recommended Sherchan, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister, as the state chief. Similarly, Gurung was the former president of Nepali Congress Chitwan.
The meeting appointed Bishwanath Poudel as the vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission and Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Limbu as its members, said Karki.
Similarly, the decision to approve the Unclaimed Corpse Management Directive, 2078 BS was also passed by today’s cabinet, he said.
