Namchi, 28th June : A brief felicitation programme as a part of the monthlong ‘Tokyo 2020 Olympics Campaign’ for the sole Archer Olympian of Sikkim representing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Tarundeep Rai was convened at the Conference Hall of District Administrative Centre in Namchi today. The monthlong campaign is being organized by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim and Sikkim Olympic Association in collaboration with Sports Authority of India.
The programme was attended by the Additional Political Secretary South Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim as the chief guest in the presence of family members of Tarundeep Rai spouse Mrs. Archana Bhattrai and son as the guest of honour alongwith sporting fraternity of the district. The felicitation programme also was attended by ADC (South) Satyen Kumar Pradhan, Joint Director, Sports Department (South ) Mrs.Tshering Ongmu alongwith officials from the concerned department.
During the programme the family members of the Olympian were felicitated with a citation and a bouquet which was presented from the hands of the chief guest. Assistant Director Sports Basant Pradhan threw light on the early life, career and achievements of the archer.
Mrs. Tshering Ongmu mentioned that Rai’s participation in the upcoming Olympics is a moment of pride for the state as well as the country. She further stated that the participation of the archer is more crucial in encouraging the young sportspersons of the state more than winning a medal.
It may be mentioned here that the aim of the campaign is to promote the Olympic Games, support the Olympic Team and encourage the mass about the importance of sports. The campaign started on June 23 and will culminate on July 23, 2021.
