German, English editions of Xi’s book on development launched in Frankfurt

The German and English editions of a collection of essays written by Chinese President Xi Jinping under the title “Zhejiang, China: A New Vision for Development” was launched Tuesday.

More than 200 people including diplomats, officials, scholars as well as industry professionals attended the ceremony.

The book contains 232 essays written by Xi for a column in the local newspaper Zhejiang Daily between February 2003 and March 2007, when he served as secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) provincial committee of the eastern province Zhejiang.

The book systematically reflects the origin and development process of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the power of thoughts are contained in every word and line, said Du Zhanyuan, head of China International Publishing Group.

Chinese Ambassador to Germany Wu Ken said at the launch ceremony that publishing the book’s German and English editions will allow more foreign friends to understand the CPC’s governing philosophy and the strategy and wisdom of the Chinese leader.

Praising the articles as clear and closely related to grassroots, Martin Albrow, a fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences, said the book “provides a unique window on the processes that underpin China’s renewal.”

First published in August 2007, the Chinese version of the book was reprinted in November 2013. Multiple language editions of the book are now jointly published by the Foreign Languages Press and Zhejiang People’s Publishing House.
