Kathmandu, July 29:
The Federal Parliament Parliamentary Hearing Committee has rejected the recommendation made to appoint Krishnaman Pradhan as the Election Commissioner.
Pradhan’s nomination had drawn widespread criticism after four complaints of sexual misconduct including sexual assault were filed against him. During the hearing, the committee members had sought for an explanation from him over the complaint raised.
Earlier, before the committee met today, Pradhan had registered a communiqué withdrawing his candidacy for the position offered to him.
Committee member Mahesh Kumar Bartaila said that the committee decided to reject the name of the Pradhan based on the same communiqué.
It may be noted that the Constitutional Council chaired by then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had proposed the name of Pradhan, former Executive Director of Nepal Law Society and sent it to the Federal Parliament Secretariat for a parliamentary hearing.
