Twelve killed as bus falls into the Rapti river

Janaki (Banke), Jan 13:

Twelve people have died when a passenger bus heading to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj fell into the Rapti river at Bhaluwang in Dang.

Only four passengers have been identified so far. The identity of the other deceased has not been established, said Superintendent of Police of Dang Ram Bahadur KC. The accident involving Mountain Air New bus (Bhe.1 Ka 3912) fell into the Rapti river around 10:30 pm on Friday night.

The deceased identified so far are Kusum Basnet, 60, Saurabh Bista,39, Taranath Pandey,65, and Indian citizen Mune,31,.

Among the injured, eight are undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur, Banke, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Kohalpur, Sundar Tiwari said.

Other injured are undergoing treatment at Bhaluwang and Lamahi Hospital.

The bus is operated by Namaste Transport. The bus driver Lal Bahadur Nepali, 28, a resident of Salyan, has been detained by the police for necessary action.
