Pakyong, July 28 : The 76th Independence Day football tournament 2022 kicked off today at Rangpo Goli Ground, Rangpo.
The tournament was organized by Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC) Rangpo’ 2022, in collaboration with Rangpo Nagar Panchayat.
The tournament features 20 teams with a knockout format which began from today and it will conclude on 15th of august, 2022. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs. 3 lakh cash prize and the runner up will receive a cash prize of Rs.2 lakh.
The Chairman, Sikkim Housing & Development Board, Karma Tashi Bhutia graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. OSD to CM, Govt of Sikkim, Shri Bhanu Pradhan accompanied him as the guest of honour. The day also saw the presence of dignitaries from concerned government departments, Councillors, the general public and school children.
Karma Tashi Bhutia hoisted the national flag before the declaration of the beginning of the Independence Day Football Tournament 2022.
The inaugural match was played between PFA (Central Pendam) and KFA Siliguri. The programme also featured colourful traditional dances performed by local school children. (IPR)
