The machine was supposed to be delivered within 15 months of the purchase order, according to the agreement between the constructor and the foreign supplier business. In May 2019, a contract was agreed upon between the project and the tunneling contractor. Due to the foreign company’s slowness in supplying the TBM machine, the Sunkoshi Marine Project’s tunneling operation is suffering. The 59th annual report of the Auditor General’s Office claims that the failure to provide the necessary design by the deadline resulted in a delay in the delivery of the TBM machine.

The contractor company was unable to import the TBM machine for tunneling from abroad
within the required time frame, according to Rabi Shakya, information officer for the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project.

The project and the Chinese contractor company agreed on a contract worth 10 billion 568
million rupees (excluding VAT). The 13.3-kilometer-long tunnel will be built in 52 months,
starting in August 2025, according to the contract agreement. The diameter of this tunnel will be 6.4 meters. There is still a question as to whether the tunnel work will be finished in the agreed period if the company fails to deliver the required tools and supplies for digging the tunnel on time.
