Dinesh Gunawardena appointed as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka

Dinesh Gunawardena has taken the oath as Sri Lanka’s fifteenth prime minister. At the Prime Minister’s Office, 73-year-old Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party (SLPP) MP Gunawardena took the oath of office and secrecy in front of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Under the direction of former Presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickramasinghe, he had served as Home Minister.

It is said that there will be a discussion on the formation of the national government after the Parliament meeting next Wednesday. Following the establishment of the national government by the political parties, the Cabinet will be recreated.

Meanwhile, heavily armed security personnel were positioned outside the Presidential Secretariat to manage the many protesters.
