The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee under the House of Representatives has agreed to keep a two-year time limit for the rape case.

A meeting held in Sidharbar on Friday agreed to keep a two-year time limit while discussing some amendments to the bill against sexual violence. Earlier, women’s rights activists had protested against the one-year time limit for rape. Similarly, it has been agreed to keep a limit of three years for the disabled, mentally handicapped and children. Committee chairperson Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel informed that the bill stipulates that a minor who has been raped can lodge a complaint for three years after becoming an adult.

Similarly, it has been agreed in the bill to compensate the victims of sexual violence from the state treasury. The meeting also directed the government to present a bill for the overall law reform as soon as possible after discussing and studying all the laws related to sexual violence, said Pokhrel.
