On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation as the head of the Conservative Party.
Following many issues and the resignation of his own cabinet members, Johnson resigned as the head of his party and as Prime Minister.
Following Johnson’s resignation as leader of the Conservative Party, Liz Truss, the British Foreign Secretary, encouraged everyone to move in harmony and peace.
“The Prime Minister has taken the right decision,” she tweeted from Bali. The Johnson-led government has made significant progress in creating and delivering vaccinations for COVID-19, Brexit, and assisting Ukraine. We really need harmony and cooperation. He will remain in charge until a replacement is chosen.
The Conservative Party will now begin the process of choosing a new leader. Before the Conservative conference in October, a new prime minister will be chosen. Following the steady resignation of ministers, Johnson came under strong pressure to step down. In a regular British Parliament question-and-answer session earlier on Wednesday, he stated that he had earned a “broad mandate” from the 2019 election and will keep up his efforts.
A wave of resignations occurred after him, and on Wednesday, several other ministers followed suit. Earlier, in opposition to Johnson’s resignation, more than 50 Conservative legislators resigned.
Nadhim Zahawi, who was appointed Finance Minister on Tuesday, submitted his resignation earlier in the day. In the letter, he claimed that Prime Minister Johnson was weakening the government and should quit.
