Emphasis on the need to compensate the victims of sexual violence from the state funds

Kathmandu, June 23

The need of compensating women who have been the victims of rape and other sexual assaults out of public funds has been highlighted by members of the parliamentary committee on law, justice, and human rights.

The committee members stated at the meeting that rather than the victim receiving the fine, the victim’s self-esteem may suffer as a result of the committee taking action against the offender and imposing a fine.

The culprit had ”eaten my money,” ”built a house,” and ”taken property,” according to meeting chairman Krishna Bhakta Pokharel.

”We should also talk about the situation with the Ministry of Finance and take action to pay compensation to the victims from the state treasury,” he added.

According to committee member Binda Panda, the state should be in charge of the education, health, and employment of women and children who have been victimized. She suggested that the offender needs to be banned from future office in any form.

According to her, there should be no time restriction on when a rape allegation must be filed.
