Kathmandu, June 19
On Sunday, a writ petition opposing the appointment of Nepal Police’s IGP will be heard. The matter is being heard by Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Justice Kumar Chudal in a two-judge panel.
Acting Chief Justice Karki and Justice Chudal have ordered to hold the hearing on June 13 and keep the case pending till June 19. The Council of Ministers appointed Dhiraj Pratap Singh as Inspector General of Police on May 1. Bishwaraj Pokharel, a competing AIG, has filed a writ suit in the Supreme Court, alleging that Singh was chosen as IGP by the cabinet.
Along with the writ petition against the IGP, former DIGs Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal, and Prakash Jung Karki have filed a writ petition against the promotion of AIG. The writ suit against AIG Badhuwa against the candidates Dheeraj Pratap Singh, Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk, and Basanta Pant was ordered to be presented on May 31st by a bench of Justices Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Kumar Chudal. Basanta Panta’s term was extended, and he was told to appear in court on June 13 for a hearing.
Ghanshyam Aryal was one of three DIGs who filed a writ suit opposing the promotion of current IGPs Dheeraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk. On May 2, IGP Singh took office.
