Development expenditure is only 36 percent

Kathmandu, June 19

In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, the government has barely spent 36.49 percent of its budget. Only Rs. 137.96 billion of the entire budget of Rs. 378.09 billion has been spent.

As a result, economists predict that capital spending will fall short of the expectations until mid-July.

The government’s capacity to spend, according to economist Gyanendra Adhikari, has caused dissatisfaction. He stated, “It’s ironic that the development funding hasn’t been spent on time.” The inability to spend development funds is a long-standing problem in Nepal. After the country became federalized, it was expected to improve. However, this has not occurred.

The government had spent 31.28 percent from April to April, 27.45 percent from April to April, 20.73 percent from February to February, 16.52 percent from January to January, and 13.44 percent from January to January. Capital expenditures were 7.67 percent in November, 5.57 percent in November, 3.94 percent in September, 0.69 percent in August, and 0.23 percent in August, according to the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.
