Western sanctions on Russia fail: Putin

Kathmandu, June 18

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western sanctions on Moscow “insane and foolish.” President Putin claimed that sanctions imposed by Western countries had failed at a gathering in St. Petersburg. ‘Economic sanctions on Russia are unlikely to succeed from the start,’ he added.

Sanctions on Russia, he claims, are “more damaging” to those who apply them. Western countries are attempting to punish Russia but also attempting to safeguard its economy.

But, speaking at the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Putin
stated that sanctions against Russia may cost the European Union more than $400 billion.
Eastern Ukraine has lately been occupied by Russian military.
