Chief of Army Staff Sharma leaves for Lebanon

Kathmandu, June 18

Prabhuram Sharma, the Chief of Army Staff, has left for Lebanon today to support soldiers
deployed to restore calm in conflict-affected regions.

An authorized charioteer, Bal Krishna Karki, bids a seven-member group led by Chief of Army Staff Sharma farewell at the Tribhuvan International Airport. At the request of the United Nations, the group will go to Lebanon and Syria to examine the UN peacekeeping operation.

According to the Nepal Army’s Military Public Relations and Information Directorate, General Sharma will meet with senior officials from the UN missions in Lebanon and Syria during his tour. On his way out of Lebanon, the former Chief of Army Staff was honored on the battlefield.

Following the inspection tour, Chief of Army Staff Sharma will go to the United States on the United States' official invitation to this Asar (13-17). Five people will make up the US tour team.

Charioteer Bal Krishna Karki will serve as acting Chief of Army Staff during his visit. Sharma, the Chief of Army Staff, is slated to return from the United States on July 3.
