Shortage of anti-TB drug in Dang

Kathmandu, June 5

Dang has reported a medicines shortage for TB patients. Renu Acharya, Tuberculosis Focal
Person of Rapti Provincial Hospital, Tulsipur, said there is a shortage of medicine for children under the age of 14.

The problem has been seen due to the lack of supply of medicines from the province level
authorities. Drugs required for adult TB patients are available but there is a scarcity of the drugs required for children.

Acharya said that every hospital in the district is reaching out to the provincial hospital for
medicine. Currently, seven children under the age of 14 are taking the drug at the provincial hospital. In addition, 150 patients above 14 years of age have been taking anti-TB medicine.

For the past 15 days, the district has been suffering from a medicine shortage. Dr. Om Aryal, the hospital’s medical superintendent, said that initiatives are being taken to contact the province and the center for medicine supply.
