Machine connection to make the state self-sufficient in advanced seeds

Kathmandu, June 2

Seed processing equipment has been built in 11 Gandaki districts in order to make them food grain and vegetable seed self-sufficient.

At the Agriculture Development Resource Center in Waling 1 Triyasi, Syangja, a machine with storage has been installed. Sixty-one farmer cooperatives and farmer groups have been identified in the state to develop enhanced seeds for the Terai, mid-hills, and high hills.

In Syangja, a state-level seed processing equipment has been erected to replace the import of food grain and vegetable seeds. Gandaki Pradesh’s Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives spent Rs one crore to build up a processing plant with storage.

This program has been implemented in each of the state’s 11 districts to assist resource seed producers with capacity building, equipment, storage, processing, and marketing.

Despite the state’s requirement for 6500 metric tons of paddy, it is possible to generate 30% better resource seed. In Gandaki, 61 farmers’ groups and cooperatives have been registered to produce paddy, wheat, maize, and vegetable seeds, according to Crop Development Officer Sudip Regmi.

Terai, Central Hills, and High Hills are the three geographical divisions of the state. In the high hills, the Agriculture Development Resource Center will produce upgraded paddy, wheat, pulses, maize, corn, bean, and high-value seeds, while in the Terai, rye, radish, onion, garlic, cauliflower, and other crops will be grown.

Its goal is to boost seed production by expanding the capacity of the listed seed producer
company and exporting it to other states.
