A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, demanding that the statute of limitations in rape cases be expanded

Kathmandu, May 31

Law students have petitioned the Supreme Court for an extension of the statute of limitations in rape cases.

As per Nepalese law, rape complaints must be filed within one year of the date of the rape.

The petitioners have maintained that the prevailing law has promoted injustice to victims who cannot file the case within one year and allowed the rapist to escape.

On Monday, the National Law Campus students – Stuti Subedi, Abijeet Adhikari, and Sangeet Dunghana – filed a writ petition with the apex court.
