In Brazil, the death toll from floods and landslides has grown to 56.

In Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco, the death toll from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains has grown to 56. Local officials announced on Sunday that floods and landslides caused by heavy rains had killed at least 56 people and left another 56 missings. Approximately 4,000 rescue workers have been deployed to assist flood and landslide victims.

Recife, the state capital in northeastern Parnambu, has taken the worst of the damage. More than 30 people have been dead in the city alone, according to police.

Floods and landslides in neighboring Alagos have killed at least two people and displaced nearly 7,000 people, while floods and landslides caused by constant rains have impacted people&’ livelihoods in other surrounding states. Nine municipalities in Parnambu have declared a state of emergency at the local level.
