Kathmandu, May 27
The petroleum tax will be decreased. The present customs duty and infrastructure charge on petroleum goods would be cut by at least Rs. 10 after a recent resolution by the Council of Ministers. According to the Ministry of Finance, the Council of Ministers decided on May 24 to lower the current tax by at least Rs. 10 in principle.
According to a source, the decision on which title to reduce the tax has yet to be made. It is thought that an extra residence tax of Rs. 10 would be imposed in the name of the
Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, which is currently being raised by the government. It is
understood that an extra infrastructure tax of Rs. 10 would be imposed in the name of the
Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, which is currently being raised by the government. It is
claimed that an effort is being done to cut the fee from the customs charge to Rs 5-5 per liter.
The government now charges Rs 25.23 per liter for petrol, Rs 12.2 per liter for diesel and
kerosene, and Rs 10 per liter for infrastructure at customs. The impact of the recent rise in the price of petroleum products on the worldwide market has reached Nepal’s increasing fuel prices. The government has been opposing the rising prices of
Rs 20 per liter in petroleum products (petrol, diesel, and kerosene) twice a year. Despite the price rise, the government has undertaken this strategy at a time when there is a desire for tax reductions that take into consideration the lifestyles of people.
