Kathmandu, May 25

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been assigned with the Ministry of
Finance. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has also delegated authority for the Ministry of Finance to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, ignoring the country’s economic crisis.

Due to a severe lack of foreign exchange, petrol, food, and other critical necessities are in
limited supply in Sri Lanka. President Gotabay Rajapaksa appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister two weeks earlier after Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned due to the economic crisis.

After the killing of President Ranasinghe Premadasa in 1993, Bikramasinghe, the nephew of Sri Lanka’s first acting president, Juniyas Jayawardene, was chosen prime minister for the first time from 1993 and 1994. Bikram Singh, a lawyer who has been active in politics for 45 years, is a Member of Parliament. After a terrible defeat in the August 2020 parliamentary elections, Bikram Singh, the leader of the United National Party (UNP), suffered a huge setback after two years.

In his four-and-a-half-decade political career, Wickremesinghe has held several prominent
roles. He was Prime Minister from 2001 to 2004 after the United Front administration won the general election in 2001.
