Women Commission demands justice for sexual abuse victims and action against culprit

Kathmandu, May 23

The National Women Commission (NWC) has called for justice to the victim of rape incident
occurred some eight years ago and action against the culprit.

The NWC made the request to the concerned authority, issuing a press statement on Sunday after a contestant of a beauty pageant made public incident of rape and sexual abuse against her by the beauty pageant organizer.

The statement read, “The security agency has already arrested the alleged rapist. The
Commission would like to draw the attention towards impartial investigation into the incident and ensuring justice to the victim and action against the perpetrator as per the existing laws.”

Furthermore, the constitutional body has demanded healthcare and security arrangements for the victims. The NWC said it had adopted zero-tolerance policy against heinous crimes like rape.

A probe committee has been formed by the government to look into the case. The NWC further said that it had been coordinating efforts with the victim, government and security agencies and called for cooperation from all sides to conduct a free and fair investigation into the case.
