UML candidate for the post of village chairman is under control

Kathmandu, May 12

Uday Rai, the CPN (UML) candidate for Sandakpur village chairman, has been taken over by the locals. When he arrived in Jamuna in Gaonpalika-5 yesterday night, he was arrested on suspicion of financial manipulation, according to residents.

Sita Karki, a ward member candidate, has also been taken into custody, according to reports.

The two were taken into custody by the Armed Police Force (APF) for security reasons during the silent time after people shouted and tried to chase them away. Suresh Sapkota, the chief of the district-based Armed Police Force, claimed they were held for security reasons because they were considered to be insecure.

Locals protested throughout the moment of silence, claiming that candidate Rai was attempting to attract votes with money. They also asked that he be punished for breaking the code of conduct.
