Kathmandu, May 10

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, anybody who engages in anti-election activities
disturbs society’s peace and tolerance or hinders voters’ ability to freely pick their representatives will face legal consequences.

In a statement, the ministry said it had received reports from several political parties, their
representatives, and candidates that occasional incidents of conflicts, disagreements, and
quarrels were occurring in the name of the election campaign, with some actions violating the election code of conduct.

The ministry stated that it is everyone’s responsibility to help conduct the election in a peaceful, fair, fraud-free, and fearless manner and that anybody engaged in anti-election actions will face legal consequences.

No one is permitted to participate in criminal acts under the pretext of an election and take the law into their own hands, according to a statement published by the Ministry’s Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel today.

On May 13, local elections will be held in a single phase across the country. In accordance with the Constitution, prevailing laws, and local level election integrated security plan, 2078 BS, the government of Nepal has mobilized around 260,000 security personnel and around 300,000 personnel across the country to maintain the necessary security arrangements to conduct the election in a clean, fearless, and fair environment.

Elections also provide a chance to develop a positive social culture, peace, and democratic
practice. The Ministry has asked that everyone involved take part in the important work of
choosing people’s representatives through elections, as well as assisting and facilitating public officials and security officers in their tasks.
