Kathmandu, May 9
A parliamentary session has been convened by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
On Sunday, the cabinet voted to suggest to the President that a parliamentary session be
conducted on Tuesday, May 17 at 4 p.m.
Due to the constitutional requirement that the yearly budget be presented by May 29, the
Council of Ministers has advised the President to call a convention. Since the parliament has been in session since May 17, the principles and priorities (pre-budget) of the Proposed Budget (excluding the tax proposal) shall be considered 15 days before the budget is presented, according to the parliament’s rules of procedure. The Speaker will read the letter from the President about the convention’s convening during the first meeting on May 17.
As a result, President Bhandari has called a joint session of both houses.
