According to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, community knowledge regarding disaster risk
reduction and emergency planning should be promoted.

President Bhandari stated in a statement released today on the 7th Earthquake Memorial Day that the federal and state governments, as well as local governments, have a significant role to play in bringing preventive measures to the grassroots level. She also called everyone’s attention to the problem.

”The Government of Nepal has established the National Reconstruction Authority and has almost completed the reconstruction of physical structures destroyed by the earthquake, including archeological and historical heritage, government and public buildings, educational and health institution buildings, private houses, roads, and bridges,” the message said.

”As lessons from previous experiences are learnt, it is critical that natural disasters such as earthquakes cause the least amount of damage possible in the future and that earthquake-resistant infrastructure is built,” the statement read.
