Kathmandu, April 19
The decision to invite a foreigner with $200 in cash has been postponed by the Ministry of
Home Affairs. ”At this time, the Immigration Office is postponing the request from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to carry 200 US dollars to foreign individuals as per the notice published on April 16, 2022,” the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Immigration Department stated in a statement today.
On April 16, the TIA Immigration Office issued a notification advising international nationals
entering Nepal through Tribhuvan International Airport to bring $200 in order to speed up the payment of visa fees.
Immigration issued a new notification today, explaining that the decision had been postponed, following considerable criticism of the decision.
In the presence of Director-General of the Immigration Department Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, General Manager of the TIA Civil Aviation Office, Head of the TIA Immigration Office, and officials of Rastriya Banijya Bank, the decision was postponed on Tuesday.
Rastriya Banijya Bank, which is presently functioning in the TIA, has also agreed to make the required arrangements to add existing POS machines, completely operationalize the payment gateway, and install one ATM each in the arrival and departure halls.
The TIA Immigration Office, Civil Aviation Office, and Rastriya Banijya Bank have determined to fix the issue by conducting quick monitoring and information sharing on a regular basis.
