Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has made a non-MP a minister. Deuba has recommended the appointment of advocate Govinda Bandi as law minister.
Newly appointed Minister Bandi is scheduled to take an oath of office and secrecy at 2 PM
today.
According to the Constitution, non-MPs can be appointed as Ministers by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
But a minister so appointed must become a member of the federal parliament within six
months of taking the oath. Otherwise, the post of minister is automatically revoked.
Likewise, the outgoing Minister Dilendra Badu has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Supplies, according to Purna Bahadur Khadkha, vice-president of the Nepali Congress.
