EC allows fringe parties to contest polls with respective election symbols

The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has decided to provide separate election symbols to all the political parties registered for the purpose of contesting local level polls.

Spokesperson of the EC Shaligram Sharma Poudel said the election symbol of the concerned political parties would be given to the political parties having district-level organizations and the ballot papers have been readied accordingly.

A total of 73 political parties, including six nationally recognized, have been registered at the EC for the local level polls. Prior to this, other political parties except for the nationally recognized had the provision to contest the polls from the ‘Independent Group’.

As shared by the EC, the Janak Education Materials Center has been asked to get ready for the printing of some 20 million ballot papers. The EC has already managed the required paper for the printing of the ballot papers.
