80 parties registered for local elections

At least 80 political parties have applied for registration with the Election Commission for the 2079 local elections.

The Election Commission had asked applications for political party registrations from February 17 to February 27.

According to the department of political parties’ management, 80 political parties have applied for registrations to participate in the local elections, 2079 BS, by 5 pm on Sunday.

Even though the fact that the EC recognized 110 political parties, only 80 have applied
registration for local elections in 2079 BS, according to Guru Prasad Wagle, the EC’s deputy attorney general.

Political parties have to apply for registrations to take part in the elections in line with Article 271 of the Constitution and Section 48 of the Political Parties Act, 2073.
