Literary writer Taranath Sharma passes away

Literary writer Taranath Sharma has died at the age of 87. Sharma, who suffered from dementia, high blood pressure and diabetes, died at home on Tuesday morning, according to family sources.

In Nepali literature, Sharma, who is also an activist of the radical movement, is famous for his works including “Belayat tira baralida”, “ghanaghasya ko ukalo” and many popular masterpieces.

Sharma, the winner of the 2026 Madan Award, has been cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Tuesday at 12 noon. Dr. Jagman Gurung informed. He said that there was a program to take his body directly to Pashupati Aryaghat without bringing it to the establishment from home.

The Madan Award Guthi has also paid tribute to Sharma’s demise.

Former Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli through his Twitter handle expressed the condolence saying, “I am saddened by the news of the demise of Dr. Taranath Sharma, a distinguished writer, founder of the Niyatra essay genre in Nepali literature, and leader of the radical movement in the Nepali language. Paying my heartfelt homage to the late writer Sharma, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family”.
