Congress decides to pass MCC from parliament

The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to present the MCC compact at Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives.

“Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba reinforced the need to pass the MCC compact and most of the leaders agreed that it should be passed at the earliest,” NC leader Dr. Shashank Koirala said after the parliamentary party meeting.

The $ 500 million grant of the United States of America has been a major political issue in recent days. So far, the NC is the only political party that has openly advocated to ratify the compact through parliament while the CPN(Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have been opposing the MCC in its existing form. Likewise, the main opposition party, CPN-UML has not made any position regarding the compact yet.
