Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana has been suspended after the impeachment motion was registered in the Parliament Secretariat.
According to Article 101 (6) of the Constitution of Nepal, Rana has been suspended.
A total of 98 lawmakers from the ruling Nepali Congress, the Maoist Center, and the Unified Socialists filed the indictment against Rana on Sunday morning.
MPs Gagan Thapa, Minendra Rijal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Pushpa Bhusal, and Dev Gurung are among those who have filed the impeachment.
After the impeachment was registered in the parliament, now Chief Justice Rana is automatically suspended.
An agitation is going on from within the judiciary against Chief Justice Rana, who is accused of seeking a share in the cabinet and bargaining on various issues.
Some time ago, the Supreme Court judges had boycotted the session demanding Rana’s resignation. The Nepal Bar Association has been protesting till now demanding his departure.
