UCPN (M) to clarify about MCC from central committee meeting

Kathmandu, February 7

The CPN (Maoist Center) will take further decision on MCC only after the Central Committee
meeting.

During the discussions held by the top Maoist leaders on Sunday and Monday morning, it was agreed to clarify the dual strategy within the party regarding the MCC at the next Central Committee meeting.

The UCPN (M) has convened a meeting of the party’s central committee on Magh 27. Central member of the UCPN (Maoist) Himal Sharma said that they would raise the issue of MCC in the meeting.

A meeting of the House of Representatives has been called before the Central Committee
meeting. A Maoist leader said that it was agreed not to allow the MCC project to be tabled in the House of Representatives and that a concrete decision would be taken only after the
Central Committee meeting.

According to him, during the discussion, Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘rachanda’ had said that he was compelled to send a letter to the US headquarters of MCC to protect the alliance. On Sunday, Prachanda’s secretariat had also made public the explanation of the same behavior.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is in favor of tabling the MCC approval project in the same session of the parliament and as soon as possible on the 26th. He is moving the discussion forward accordingly. But he does not have the support of the ruling coalition partners, the UCPN (M) and the UCPN (Maoist).
