In the first six months of the current fiscal year 2078-79, about two billion onions have been imported from India. According to the customs department, onions of that value were
imported from India from Shrawan to Poush this year.
During this period, 82.82 million kg of onion was imported from India. Due to this, the importer has collected customs revenue of Rs. 266.2 million.
Every year, Nepal is importing food grains worth billions of rupees from India. According to the department, a large number of daily necessities including onion, garlic, ginger, potato and turnip are being imported from India.
