The number of Nepali students wanting to go abroad for foreign education has skyrocketed in recent days due to fears of closure due to Omicron variant. At present, the Foreign Study
License Management Branch under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology handles more than 700 students daily.
Before the rapid spread of Omicron, 300 students used to take No Objection Letter daily. Hari Niraula, the head of the branch, said that the lockdown has started in foreign countries and the students are afraid that they will not be able to go abroad if it is delayed. “Due to this fear, the number of people receiving No Objection Letters has doubled in the last few days,” he said.
A total of 717 applications were received on Thursday for the No Objection Letter. Last year,
about 31,000 people had received No Objection Letter, but in the current fiscal year, from
Shrawan to mid-Poush, about 30,000 people have received such letter.
