The ruling parties are ready to hold local elections before the local level is without people’s
representatives.
Following the continuous pressure from the Election Commission, the parties affiliated to the ruling coalition are ready to hold the local elections before 5 Jesth. The term of office of the people’s representative elected at the local level is coming to an end from 5 Jesth 2079 BS.
After the meeting of the coalition held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday,
government spokesperson and Information Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that an
agreement was reached in the meeting to hold local elections on time.
“The ruling coalition has agreed to hold the election before the end of the term at the local
level. The date will be decided at the next meeting,” said government spokesperson Karki.
Nepali Congress leader Min Bishwakarma said that the Prime Minister was committed to hold the local elections in Baishakh and the election would be held in Baishakh after the Prime Minister persuaded the Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
“Congress was ready to hold the election before the end of the local level term. There were
some differences in the alliance but the agreement was reached after the Prime Minister broke the differences and agreed to hold the election in Baishakh before the expiration of the local level term,” said Bishwakarma.
