Deuba-Prachanda meeting: Agreed to hold local elections in Baishakh

A meeting has been held between the Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher
Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. The two leaders discussed local elections during a meeting at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Monday.

During the discussion between the two leaders on the request of the Election Commission to fix the date of the local level election, both the leaders have agreed to hold the three-tier election as per the constitutional provision.

For that, they will convene a meeting of the High-Level Political Coordination Committee at 9 am on Tuesday and discuss the date of the election as suggested by the committee, said
Prachanda’s personal secretary Ramesh Malla.

“The two leaders have discussed holding the election in accordance with the constitutional
provisions and setting a date for the government by holding discussions with the coordination committee, it has been decided to convene a meeting of the committee on Tuesday.” Malla said.

Earlier, the CPN (Maoist Centre) had put forward a proposal saying that holding state elections at the same time would reduce the cost of state property. However, the Maoists are ready to hold the election in accordance with the constitutional provisions after the criticism on the proposal increased.
