The National Federation of Village Councils, the Federation of Nepal Municipalities and the
Federation of District Coordinating Committees have drawn the attention of the government
and the Election Commission to start the local level election process immediately.
On Monday, the chairpersons of the three organizations issued a joint statement drawing the attention of the government and the Election Commission to start the election process saying that the term of the constitutionally elected local bodies is coming to an end and the
constitution does not envisage a local level without people’s representatives.
The statement said, “As the term of the elected people’s representatives expires on Jesth 7,
Asar 21 and Asoj 7, 2079 respectively, we draw the attention of the Government of Nepal and the Election Commission to immediately start the election process for the second term.”
