The Election Commission told the parties that local elections should be declared within the first week of January

Kathmandu, January 14

The Election Commission has said that the date of local elections should be announced within the first week of Magh.

During a meeting with leaders of major political parties on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya said that local elections should be declared within the first week Magh, said Shaligram Sharma Poudel, spokesperson of the commission.

Commissioner Thapaliya said that according to the election law, the commission needs 120
days to prepare and the election should be declared within the first week of January.

According to spokesperson Poudel, the commission had informed the parties that the tenure of local level office bearers would be counted from Jestha 6, 2074 BS as per the election law.

Spokesperson Poudel said that they will discuss the election date with the government soon.
