Kathmandu, January 14
The Australian government has revoked the visa of star tennis player Novak Djokovic. Djokovic is likely to be deported from Australia after his visa was revoked for a second time, according to international media reports.
The Australian government on Friday revoked Djokovic’s visa, saying it could increase the risk to the community because he had not been vaccinated. Al Jazeera reports that Immigration Minister Alex Hawke has revoked his visa using his discretion.
Djokovic, who arrived in Australia to participate in a tennis tournament, had earlier been
stopped at the airport for not being vaccinated and his visa had been revoked. He immediately appealed against the decision to cancel his visa.
The judge on Monday reversed a decision to revoke Djokovic’s visa. He was immediately released from immigration control. But without deciding whether to grant a visa, he was included in the official draw for the Australian Open on Thursday.
Djokovic is likely to be deported from Australia after the government decided to revoke his visa for the second time. However, his lawyer said he could appeal against the decision.
