Kathmandu, January 13
Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh appreciated the sentiments of the delegates and
said that he supported Sher Bahadur Deuba as the president. Although he was in favor of a
change of leadership, he made it clear that he supported Deuba as the delegates to the General Convention were in favor of the old leadership.
Speaking at a function in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Singh said, ”I have been in favor of a change of party leadership from the very beginning. I am competing with the same agenda. But in the first phase, after the old leadership got the highest number of votes, I have supported Sher Bahadurji as per the mandate of the voters. ”
Singh had contested for the post of president at the 14th General Convention of the Nepali
Congress. Deuba, former vice president Vimalendra Nidhi, leader Singh, central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala and Kalyan Gurung were the candidates. Deuba was elected as the Nepali Congress president in the second round after no candidate got a majority in the first round. In the second round, there was competition between Deuba and Koirala. Deuba did not get 82 votes to get majority.
Leader Singh said that while supporting the candidate who got the highest number of votes in the first round, the other side was against him. He complained that there was no support for his agenda of change of leadership and party rule.
