UML District Convention: Strong competition between Sharma and Shahi of Dailekh

CPN-UML has fielded two candidates for the post of Dailekh chairperson. Elections have to be held as consensus is not possible. Incumbent party presidents Rabindra Raj Sharma and Surya Bahadur Shahi are in the fray for the post. Shahi is a former deputy chairman of the district development committee, while Sharma is also a member of the representative assembly.

Both the leaders are known as strong leaders in the politics of the district. Therefore, it is
estimated that there will be fierce competition. Moreover, in terms of geography, as Sharma
belongs to Constituency No. 1 and Shahi Constituency No. 2, there will be competition between the two regions.

A UML district level leader said that new leadership should be brought as much as possible.
According to UML state committee chairman Binod Kumar Shah, Nanda Kishore Basnet has
been elected unopposed as vice-chairman in Dailekh.

Basnet was unopposed after Khadga Raj Upadhyaya, the mayor of Aathabish municipality,
withdrew his candidacy for the post of vice-chairman. Rudra Bahadur Shahi and Tilak Prasad Rijal will compete for the post of secretary. According to UML sources, there is a strong possibility that Shahi, who is well-known among the youth, will come forward. Some of the candidates have withdrawn their candidacies.Ammar Bahadur Shahi of Thatikandh village municipality, who had given his candidature for open membership, has announced to withdraw his candidature. He is a teacher. UML Dailekh election has started from 8 am on Tuesday.
