Kathmandu, January 11, 2022

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has urged Nepali expatriates living around the world to
contribute to Nepal’s prosperity by opening dollar accounts in Nepal and to benefit themselves.

Addressing a webinar organized by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) UK, US, Australia and other NCCs on Monday, Finance Minister Sharma said investment and employment in the nation would increase when NRNs open foreign currency accounts in Nepal. He said, ”If you do not serve a little, you will get fruit, you will also benefit.”

Finance Minister Sharma said that the government was creating a conducive environment for foreign investment. He said that billions of dollars of investment are needed every year to upgrade Nepal from an underdeveloped country and for that, services need to be provided to the investors.

Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari said that this rule was brought in a short time. He hoped that the previous $10,000 would be reduced to $5,000, two years to one year, some banks would start opening foreign currency accounts and that this provision would be a means of connecting the second generation with Nepal as it grows abroad.

Finance Secretary Madhu Marasini said that even before this, one could open an account in
dollars, but this time the government has facilitated it. He said, ‘You can open an account from wherever you are, you can go back, money is associated with emotion and love. We hope that the knowledge, skills and abilities you have acquired will create an environment for the benefit of the motherland. We aim to use the money raised in this way to help create employment in Nepal and increase investment for indigenous products. ‘

Kumar Pant, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, thanked the Government of
Nepal for the new facility and said that it would make it easier for Nepalis from all over the
world to bring their savings to Nepal by opening an account in Nepal. He recalled that the
association has been working as a partner for the prosperity and development of Nepal since its inception.

Organized by NRNA UK, the event was co-organized by NRNA NCC USA, Austria, Australia,
Qatar, Canada, Spain, South Africa and South Korea.
