Protest at Maitighar Mandala demanding citizenship

Kathmandu, January 10

A sit-in has been organized at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Monday demanding
citizenship from the government. A sit-in has been called under the leadership of the Civil
Struggle Committee demanding the government to provide citizenship immediately as per the constitutional provision.

The protesters said that they had to sit in protest against being deprived of citizenship. He
objected that the government had made even its own citizens stateless.

They have seriously accused the government of inhumane treatment of the citizens by not even giving them citizenship which is the identity of the nation.

Participants in the sit-in displayed placards saying, ”We are the children of Nepali parents, how long will the government have to become a stateless person?”

In Nepal, even the children of Nepali citizens have not been able to get citizenship, in some
cases even non-citizens have been granted citizenship but the government has not listened to them.
