Kathmandu, January 9
The Rastriya Janamorcha (National People’s Front) has protested against India’s continued road widening in Lipulek area.
The Jana Morcha has demanded the Government of Nepal to immediately hold talks with India on this issue and stop the construction work.
Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC issued a statement today stating that serious
attention has been paid to Modi’s statement and demanded to stop the construction work.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had said at a public function in Haldwani in the
Indian state of Uttarakhand that road widening work was underway in the Lipulek area to
extend the road to Mansarovar. Although the Jana Morcha has formally protested the issue by issuing a statement, other political parties have remained silent.
Last year, it was made public that India had encroached on Nepali land and built a road in
Lipulek, which falls under the Kalapani region of Nepal. Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the road through virtual media.
There were protests all over Nepal saying that India was continuing to encroach on Nepali land. The government had also sent a diplomatic note to the Indian government.
The government led by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has issued a new map of Nepal including the territories including Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura occupied by India.
